Polish keeper Lukasz Fabianksi has taken up a new sport following his release from West Ham, appearing in a charity basketball game.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  The recently released Hammer was invited to take part in the game by former NBA star Marcin Gortat. Fabianksi's team pipped their opposition, a team comprised of NATO Soldiers, 67-64. The game commemorated the 25th anniversary of Poland's ascension to the military pact.

• THE BIGGER PICTURE

  Fabianski was not the only famous footballer to take the court. Borussia Dortmund and Poland legend Jakub Blaszczykowski also took part at the Atlas Arena in Lodz.

• DID YOU KNOW?

  Fabianksi is known to be a fan of the sport, having watched the legendary Chicago Bulls teams of the 1990s during his childhood. The ex-Arsenal keeper shared that he "played basketball in primary school when Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were winning NBA championships", and that he would play the sport with his brothers, which he believes helped him develop the skills to become an elite keeper.

  WHAT NEXT FOR FABIANSKI?

  Fabianski has turned down an approach from Legia Wasrsaw following his release form West Ham. The club's sporting director, Michal Zewkalow, revealed the veteran shot stopper wants to stay in England. Whether the 40-year-old can command interest from the Premier League remains to be seen, as he enters the twilight of along and successful career.
