Chelsea are in no danger of losing Cole Palmer this summer amid fears the attacking midfielder has a release clause in his contract.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  Reports have suggested the England international's contract includes a clause that would allow him to leave for around £60 million ($80m) should the Blues fail to qualify for next season's Champions League. They currently occupy the last spot that would guarantee a place in next season's league phase.

  However, the reports there is no such clause in his deal that relates to the European competition. Palmer's slump of 18 games without a goal – although he registered two assists in that time – saw him heavily criticised before he ended that run in the 3-1 win against Liverpool at the weekend. Throughout that drought, the report says, coach Enzo Maresca had many discussions to reassure him that the spark would return.

  Despite such a long spell without scoring, Palmer has managed 15 goals and eight assists in the league for the Stamford Bridge side, who have now won four games in a row in all competitions.

  Palmer played the second 45 minutes of Chelsea's 4-1 win against Djurgaarden in the Conference League last Thursday and, with the London side holding such an advantage, he may be rested when they meet again this week.
